[ti:American Voters Not Likely to Change Their Minds about Trump] [by:www.myyhpf.tw] [00:00.00]更多聽力請訪問51VOA.COM [00:00.04]This week political observers watched the first televised hearings [00:06.92]of the impeachment investigation against U.S. President Donald Trump with interest. [00:16.44]Opposition party lawmakers hope the hearings will help persuade Americans [00:23.97]that Trump should be ousted from office. [00:28.54]But the hearings are not likely to cause many Americans [00:34.23]to change their minds about the president, the Associated Press reports. [00:40.96]Voters either like him or dislike him. [00:46.80]News organizations are especially interested in the opinions of voters in states [00:54.59]that will help decide the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. [01:02.20]One of those states is Michigan. One voter there, Quincy Murphy, [01:08.35]watched the hearing on his television at home. [01:12.67]He said nothing he could see or hear would change his mind [01:18.47]that Trump was unfit to be president. [01:21.96]"I watch it in disgust," Murphy said. [01:26.40]He is 45 years old. [01:28.96]He works for a car manufacturer. [01:33.05]In the 2016 presidential election, he voted for Trump's opponent, Hillary Clinton. [01:42.16]Murphy added, "I haven't found anything to convince me [01:47.35]that he is doing what's best for this country." [01:52.88]More than 700 kilometers away, a Trump supporter was equally strong [01:59.40]in his belief that the hearings would have no effect on his opinion. [02:07.72]Joe D'Ambrosio is 76-years-old. [02:12.36]He has a job cutting people's hair in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. [02:19.11]The television in his store was playing the hearing. [02:23.44]"I fully support the president," D'Ambrosio said. [02:29.24]He said he talked to a lot of people who were happy with their jobs [02:35.12]and the gains in their financial investments during Trump's time in office. [02:41.77]The opposition party doesn't "want to talk about that, [02:47.08]and I think they are going to pay a price," he said. [02:53.36]Another man in the store added that he did not think that Trump had done anything illegal. [03:02.12]The president is accused of withholding foreign aid to Ukraine, [03:08.88]which has faced Russian aggression. [03:12.48]Witnesses say the move was meant to pressure the Ukrainian leader. [03:19.19]They say Trump wanted him to announce investigations [03:24.68]into the family of one of Trump's U.S. political competitors. [03:31.84]Some lawmakers say the effort shows a president abusing his office, [03:38.87]and the power of American foreign policy, for personal political gain. [03:46.41]The man was not convinced. [03:49.99]"We ask countries to do things all the time," he said. [03:55.39]The three men's comments fit the findings of a recent public opinion study. [04:03.34]It found that 79 percent of people in the president's Republican Party [04:11.47]oppose impeachment. In the opposition party, the democrats, 75 percent support it. [04:21.88]Even voters who say they do not belong to either party [04:27.35]did not believe the hearings would help them decide how to vote in the 2020 election.
